EVOCATIVE
&
DARKLY PLAYFUL
Photos by C. Whitney-Ward
I'm an EVOKE junkie. Whenever they have a new show, they change their window to showcase the artist's work. And I'm always walking by and taking a photo through the window.
This week's painting - a forlorn Victorian lass sitting on a railroad track holding an empty birdcage.
How could I resist? I stepped inside the gallery.
Figurative painter, Pamela Wilson's works of art are provocative and compelling. Her subjects are dark and singular and haunting. Pamela on the other hand looks like a California gal who wouldn't dream of putting a stuffed bird on her head, draping dead fur around her neck, or toting a rifle - the stuff of her otherworldly paintings.
Pamela's a collector of wildly-wonderful stuff and says that if she weren't an artist she'd probably open an antique shop. And, before putting paint to canvas, she finds the perfect model,
dresses her with a melange of great finds, and does a photo shoot capturing the mood. Then she begins to paint.
