Legends have it that Chimayo, NM was touched by a miracle 200 years ago. A series of mysterious healings took place in the exact spot where a wooden cross was unearthed. And, in 1816 a chapel was built that today is called the El Santuario de Chimayo Shrine.
Each year thousands of pilgrims and travelers wend their way to this sacred place, just 30 minutes north of Santa Fe, tucked into the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. I thought that black and white photography would capture the true spirit of this unique place.
