What A Sense of Accomplishment!

This September News has been a bit delayed because I wanted to be able to announce that the large commissioned piece I mentioned in the July Newsletter is now finished.

Counting the drawings and preliminary studies I made, it has been over three months in the process. There are so many things I love about this one: the horses and dogs; the figure from another favorite painting; the feeling of quiet, peaceful companionship and the romantic style...

I've called it "A Gentleman in the Dacha" in honor of the two Russian dogs so prominently featured.

I'm looking forward to delivering it to its home in New Mexico next month. While there I'll also be returning to work on the "Journey" series of painting concepts I started last spring.

Over the course of three months, I created many drawings and reference sketches to use in developing this commission. It's a complicated yet thoroughly rewarding process... and Sally is there to help when needed!

This portrait of Pibb served as one of my references for the commissioned painting.
