Friday evening art openings along Santa Fe's gallery-famous Canyon Road are always a festival for the senses. Great art & people watching! I spotted the R. DIAZ GALLERY tucked back from the road and was pulled in by the strains of Cuban music and the vibrant painting I spotted just inside the front door.
This diminutive gallery space showcases the work of acclaimed Cuban/American Abstract Expressionist artist ROLANDO DIAZ, who like his richly-colored and textured paintings, is full of energy and life and delight. He invited me to a special performance of live painting and music in the gallery the next evening, and it was spectacular.

This delightful, talented and married duo - Jan & Chris Harris - have been in the music business for over 35 years. They've been writing songs and performing for decades both nationally and internationally and have two Grammy nominations under their belt. They are long-time friends of Rolando and made the trip from Nashville to Santa Fe for the opening.
While they performed, Rolando created an original oil painting to the delight of the audience. A fine time was had by all...
