MABEL DODGE LUHAN & COMPANY: AMERICAN MODERNS AND THE WEST

THE HARWOOD MUSEUM OF ART

This complex, sophisticated, legendary woman quite literally put Taos, New Mexico on the national and international map by influencing  the avant-garde  of the  art world to experience the physical and cultural delights of Northern New Mexico.

Here they found inspiration for their work and from 1918-1948 Taos was dubbed PARIS WEST. The extraordinary exhibit at the HARWOOD MUSEUM OF ART showcases 150 works of art and ephemera produced by artists who came to Taos at Mabel's behest, and visually explores the impact that Mabel Dodge Luhan had on 20th Century Modernism.

Mabel and son...

This is a beautifully-curated and organized exhibit, which took six years to bring to fruition. Handsome signage guides you through Mabel's cultural journeys.  Presented chronologically, you can follow her transition from 19th century Victoriana to American Modernity in the Southwest.
