ART OF DEVOTION - PEYTON WRIGHT GALLERY

The simple  exterior of this gallery - housed in the historic c. 1880 Willi Spiegelberg House -  gives no hint of the rich treasure trove inside. Known internationally for its extensive collection of American Modern, Historic New Mexican, Spanish Colonial and Pre-Columbian artworks, the Peyton Wright Gallery  is presenting its 23rd Annual Exhibition - The Art of Devotion - Historic Art of the Americas - and it is gorgeous.

When you walk through the front door, this elaborate Spanish Colonial painting at the end of the long central gallery, commands your full attention. The gallery and the exhibit is a photographers dream. Thank you John Wright Schaefer for the free
 reign with my camera!

Ten exquisite small paintings tell the life of Santa Rosa de Lima - the Patron Saint of Peru...

Table tops and cabinets are filled with intricate Spanish Colonial Silver...

Circa 1800 Peruvian Milk Can!

Insanely beautiful, both inside and out

Richly-carved and painted historic bultos, cristos and retablos are everywhere...

The duality of the magnificent art in this gallery - one wing houses the vast collection of Historic Art of the Americas and the other  American Modern Paintings and Sculpture - makes a visit all the more intriguing.
